DAAD Masters/PhD Degree Scholarship for International Students
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides scholarships for graduates from developing and newly industrialized countries to pursue a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognized university in Germany. Exceptionally, the scholarship offers a chance to obtain a doctoral degree as well. The scholarship aims to provide students with at least two years of professional experience an opportunity to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany. The next course will start in the academic year 2024/2025, and the deadline for applications is between August-October 2023, annually.

Scholarship Value/Inclusions/Duration
The scholarship provides a monthly stipend of 861 euros for graduates and 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates, health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage, travel allowance, unless covered by the home country or another funding source. The scholarship’s duration is 12 to 24 months for Master’s and 42 months for PhD, depending on the particular institution.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the DAAD scholarship, applicants must:
- Be currently working for a public authority, a state or private company in a developing country
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related subject
- Have completed an academic degree with far above average results (upper third) and at least two years of related professional experience after the first degree (bachelor) at the time of application
- Have academic degrees not more than six years old
- For courses taught in German, applicants must successfully pass the language examination DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 before the start of the study course, and the minimum German language level of B1 must be proved by providing a certificate
- For courses taught in English, applicants must provide proof of adequate language skills according to the respective course’s regulations
