Hello,
Just an honest question!! If your current employer decides to lay off some percentage of its workforce, would you make it?🤔
According to tracking site Layoffs.fyi, 658 tech companies have laid off∙ 191416 employees in 2023.Can you imagine these numbers? Like some Nigerians will say, “how many people remain?” 😅
And it’s not just in tech, other careers and companies are experiencing this major hit. Really, it’s not even the fault of the companies or employers. You cannot blame them as there is a major economic hit and companies are forced to cut costs. A company must make profit and this includes letting go of people who no longer bring value or who can be easily replaced. Trust me, these people who have lost their jobs are professionals. So what exactly was the problem? And to those who didn’t lose their jobs, what did they actually possess that made the company retain them? 🤔
These are valid questions to answer so you can take the required steps to protect yourself.
I’m not trying to scare you but as a friend, we need to tell ourselves the hard truth 🧏. The only way to remain relevant in the workplace is to continuously add value to the company. You can’t add value if you don’t equip yourself with the latest knowledge required to get things done. Be sincere to yourself, when was the last time you learned something new about your job or industry? Going to the university to get a degree is not enough. Even an MSc is not enough! The world is changing everyday.
You need to improve as things are not the way they used to be. The more you delay, the more you risk your chance in retaining your job or getting a good job.
There is an adage that says, ‘You can’t give what you don’t have’, and trust me when I say, companies are looking for people who have something to give. Especially in these days when AI tools are replacing many jobs. Can your present skills stand the test of time? Or can your services be easily replaced by AI?
In my next email, I will be teaching you other ways to avoid losing your job and how to get better at it. But the first step is to develop yourself! Get the required skills and make sure nobody can do what you can do.
What do you want to learn? How do you want to learn it? Where can you get what to learn?
Well, with Faslearn, all those questions can be answered. There are a lot of courses made just for you. You can even begin with the free courses.

New Yam (Ikeji) Festival in Afikpo| Ebonyi Face The yam festival marks the end of an abundant food-producing harvest and also marks the beginning of the traditional New Calendar Year. African people have always had festivals at the time of the harvest. In Afikpo the Yam Festival (Ikeji or Iriji) lasts three days. The festival begins with a cleansing ceremony to honor family members who have died. Farmers give thanks to the gods that brought about the good harvest. This festival is held once a year, usually in August or September, just as the rainy season is coming to an end, and crops are ripe and ready to harvest. There is plenty of maize (corn) as well as other vegetables, such as okra, beans, cassava, and yams. Yams are usually the first fruits of the harvest, the staple food of many peoples of western Africa. The yam is a large tuberous root related to the sweet potato, but not exactly the same. American sweet potatoes are usually orange, but African yams can be white, yellow, or
